Nothing from last night. The French did not offer a lot and I felt the Germans were there for the taking, they seemed happy to sit on their one goal. It was not the classic game it was billed to be for sure.

Brazil went through and ultimately if they do win the tournament it will be on the premise 7 wins will do. I thought they were pretty poor last night and like France Colombia just did not offer up enough in the final third. The free kick was a rest strike and the game at times was at a frantic pace and yet again my view was the referee was very poor in the game. But Brazil made it and to them that is all that counts, I am sure they will need to improve to get past Germany.

Today the last two quarter finals are up first. Argentina v Belgium is first up at 5PM and the market has Argentina as a clear favourite around even money. Neither of these teams has played to their full potential so far in the tournament. Argentina have survived with the occasional bit of Messi magic and Belgium have had good parts in games.

Neither team has really been tested either and I feel this could be a cautious game with neither side going gung ho for it. Big players have disappointed on both teams and this could be a battle of the defences and a nicked goa,l and for that reason at the price I am going to side with Belgium.  If they allow Messi space they lose but Kompany is one of the best in the world and van Buyten is a competent defender so whilst Belgium have not been great they can nick this and I didn’t make them 7/2.

So a small bet on Belgium at 4.6 and I will have trade bets on the 1-0 and 0-1 at 7.6 and 14 and hoe for an opportunity there.

Holland will surely end Costa Ricas World Cup in the 9PM game. I will say it again, Costa Rica are really not that good and the gulf in teams here is of a fair size. I will back Holland at 1.54 as to me it is a huge price. I cannot see any other circumstance where Holland would be bigger than 1.3 here and it is purely based on the fact that people are over estimating Costa Rica. I have detailed in previous posts who they played pre tournament and struggled against, teams like Jamaica and Ireland. In the group they played 3 inept teams and then took penalties to overcome what is frankly a poor Greece side.

Holland have not fired on all cylinders since thrashing Spain but Van Gaal must be looking at this and thinking no team is dominating, we are playing the 27th ranked team in the world and have a real shot to go on and win this thing. Tonight he should get his team to put down a marker.

I expect this to be plain sailing tonight I really do – (cue the 1-0 Costa Rica win), and I think this is a pure over reaction to a poor side.

I will have small bets on 3-0 and 3-1 and 4-1 at 13.5 and 17 and 40 with a view to trading

  1. Ian if you’re Backing 3-0,3-1,4-1 I would also cover 4-0 as well as neither 3-1 or 4-1 will come in that much if The Dutch hasn’t conceded. This is how I will be playing the Game Mate.
