I already ditched the e mail address log in in favour of a non related account ID.       Have been using 2 stage for at least a year but still had these problems.

jb8426 on Spurious Phone Number - Looks a bit fishy to me. https://ftsincome.co.uk/fts-forum/betfair/spurious-phone-number-looks-a-bit-fishy-to-me/#p2156 Betfair https://ftsincome.co.uk/fts-forum/betfair/spurious-phone-number-looks-a-bit-fishy-to-me/#p2156 does sound unsettling and reading in conjunection with your other thread. Im no expert cant really pin down whats happening. Some things to think about.

Can you consider that mobile phone sim plan is a security threat can you think  about change that total fresh start. That something to start reading upon. Has it been comprimised. Has email account been compromised. Can you ensure that mobile sim for the betfair accout does not go out in public. Is kept solely in secure location not used for anything else.just kept home. no potential access to snoopers. Or better still never turned on never used if that is possible.

Is your mobile phone secure. How modern is it. Any security flaws holes in it. Fully updated. ANy  Malcious code on it unaware of.

Same with with PC /Mac regard security updated firewalls any vunerabilities, how access wifi or hard wired ethernet.

Anything else can you think of. any holes leaks in chain.

Does betfair have a personal account manager for you to discuss situation.

Do you even need to have a mobile number registered. If need a mobile number registered it there a way of getting a mobile number that no one else can be aware of its exists. only you yourself.

Are you allowed to open a new fresh account, discuss with head security betfair.

Can you fund the account in way so no electronic communications involved. all physical hard manual deposit and withdrawal. Like you need to be there physically with the cash, and physical presence to withdraw.

All money in and out only by physical presence.biometrics.

You need to get betfair security involved to assist you and provide guidance.

Edwin on Spurious Phone Number - Looks a bit fishy to me. https://ftsincome.co.uk/fts-forum/betfair/spurious-phone-number-looks-a-bit-fishy-to-me/#p2154 Betfair https://ftsincome.co.uk/fts-forum/betfair/spurious-phone-number-looks-a-bit-fishy-to-me/#p2154 Today I tried to log into my BF account.  I know my login and I always look up my password every time on an app on my phone so I know they are correct but it wouldn't have it.

After a couple of minutes going around in circles I decided to reset my password - it then started sending 2 stage confirmations to a number ending in 5555.  I've never owned or indeed seen such a number.

Eventually I spent 10 minutes with an online chat person and he corrected the number and replaced it for my own one.     I asked the guy how it could possibly have ended up with a number that I've never heard of and he said it 'might be a glitch'.               I looked at my account statement - nobody has helped themselves to the little money that I've left in there but I'm a bit shaken by this.

Any thoughts chaps ?  I'd appreciate a bit of input.

Edwin on Betfair headaches - 'suspicious activity'. https://ftsincome.co.uk/fts-forum/betfair/betfair-headaches-suspicious-activity/#p2046 Betfair https://ftsincome.co.uk/fts-forum/betfair/betfair-headaches-suspicious-activity/#p2046 Thank you.    I managed to get my money refunded yesterday - forgot to mention that.                      They gave me a an 'exchange bonus' a few days ago to compensate me for my troubles but when I tried to put some BSP bets on with it and it wouldn't have it so yesterday I politely insisted that they gave me my own money back.   The guy said that there was no trace of the deposit or the bets on my account - in the end I said perhaps it is recorded on the version of account that you closed down.   Two minutes later he apologised and credited it to the balance of my 'new' account.     It wasn't a lot of money but it was mine so that worked out ok.  I got the impression that what they  get up to is a bit chaotic as it was clueless me that was able to guess where the money had gone.

I know that bots are working 24/7 to 'harvest' peoples e mail addresses all over the interweb.   Once they find these other bots try to gain access to accounts using said e mail addresses and password guessing software.      2 stage really helps and I wont do anything on any accounts without it now.     My e bay account was hacked and a little man in Algeria added the address of his tent in the desert for me to send my purchases to (without realising).   His net gains from me were one extremely small watch battery.  As soon as I clicked to complete the transaction the address flashed up and I knew what had happened.

My amazon account suffered a similar fate.  I could log into it but I couldn't get control over it as despite having twin factor authentication on that the scammer had removed my phone number and added his own so every change that I tried to make they were texting him about.      I spent several hours trying to get that sorted to no avail - the people that I was dealing with simply weren't intelligent enough to grasp what was going on.

Thank goodness that my betfair account seems to be ok for now  Smile

Hi Edwin,

Had the same thing myself recently, with BF temporarily suspending my account due to suspicious log ins. To be fair to them, when I rang them, it was back unsuspended more or less immediately. There were multiple attempts to log in over several days from various different countries IP addresses. I must say that they did not confiscate my funds though, which is lucky as I have a very large trading bank in there, which I withdraw to the bare minimum every few days now. I had to change my email address and that seems to have stopped any attempts at log in, as BF were under the impression that they were trying to log in using my email address. I have a new email address, changed my password, have always had 2 step authentication set up and disable the function where it allows you to log in with your email address. As far as they are concerned, that is the most that I can do.

Have no idea re Bet Engine, as not something that I have ever used. Good luck mate.

They insisted this time that I ditch using an e mail log in and create a user ID instead, Steve.  From that I get the impression that these fraudulent attempts to breach peoples accounts are via bots using e mail addresses that they've harvested online.                        Another strange thing - the last time that I had to battle with them to get it reopened they had completely the wrong e mail address for me - a blue yonder one.  I've never had anything to do with blue yonder.  I asked how this could happen with 2 stage authentication and they just didn't reply to my question.

Hi Edwin, yes mate, as I said, disable the function that allows you to log in with email and use a user ID. Betfair told me it was because somebody / bot had my email address and were trying to log in with that, but luckily I had log in with email disabled, plus they probably couldn't guess the password, who knows! However, Betfair surely had no right to take your money, whatever small amount you say it was?

why dont you just go into my account on betfair select my details and switch off the option to be able to log on with email address

much safer imo

I've done that already.    I told them that I can't keep opening up new e mail accounts every couple of weeks and this was there solution.  Hadn't known about this until then

I'm using a complex user name instead of an e mail address.

I've activated 2 stage authentication.

I've removed the exchange app from my phone.

Is there anything else I could do to try and prevent a repeat of this ?   I think 3 times in as many months is quite enough Smile

in my opinion now you have switched it from email address to username you shouldnt have many issues (hopefully)

I think I'll start doing a daily screen print when I put some proper money in there just in case.  I am using a decent password,2 stage and a user ID rather than an e mail.

The service isnt any better just quicker though

Thanks Lee.  I will bear that in mind should I end up having to do this again.      I went round and round in circles the other day on the BF website and I couldn't see 'live chat' anywhere. I even tried on a different browser but still couldn't see it.  Today I've gone straight to it - very odd but it might just be because I was stressing. Confused
