I have no choice but to go on the exchangers having had all my betting accounts either closed or severely restricted.

Betfair’s markets are win only, EW 10 places, top 5 finish, top 10 finish, top 20 finish. So you can’t mirror GG selections precisely as most traditional layers offer top 7 or top 8 in EW markets.

Depending on the price I split my stake between win, top 5 and top 10.

I only do exchanges as golf was removed as an option at several bookies a few years back. It is fine.

Sorry if this is a daft question, I really don’t know about golf! On Betfair I’ve got winner, each way 10 places, top 5, top 10 and top 20 finish.

Should I back the bet as a winner for half the suggested stake and half as whatever’s closest, or click each way top ten as it’s tipped as a top ten or under each way stake? thanks

mrwhitney — see today’s  email == The bets are advised to points ranging from 0.5 points to 1 point. So a 1 Point EW bet is 2 points staked.

If no bookies accounts, you can do what retfordpaul does, see his above useful method —

personally I don’t bother with places cause I can’t get on at bookies who do actually offer various good place terms …also i found that PLACE prices are less good on Betfair; but WIN prices are nearly always better  eg today HARMAN advised at 50/1 but I got 64/1 on BF –so nearly about 14pts better if he were to win.

Also, places are subject to dead heat deductions which will apply to players who tie, for example, for 5th place – -thus reducing your profit on places

But on the plus side for Places is that, for example, if HARMAN places in top 5 on Betfair, you may get paid about 14/1 – -which would be a big help during long losing runs

question for retfordpaul

How do you divide your stake over the three? If i am using £40 per point, are you putting £40 on the win, £20 on the top 5 and £20 on the top 10? Or are you dividing the total stake by 3. e.g. 40 + 40 / 3 = 26.66 on each Win, top 5 and top 10. Haven’t done golf or each way betting before so want to make sure i get it right as I’ve joined GG for the first time.

Thanks,

Berks

I’d suggest dividing your £40 by 3 and putting each part on

Cheers Des, am i not supposed to put 1 point on Win and 1 point on each way? So should be betting 2 points in total? in my case £80.

Well yes if that’s what you want to do, so a 1 Point EW bet is 2 points staked.

But I’d still advise diving your £40 by 3, at least to start with until you’re happy with it

Thanks for the advice. I’m thinking 1 point / 3 is a good approach to this to begin with as you said. I’m fully committed to this system and will trade it like a robot until the end. Hopefully there’ll be some contribution to a holiday at the end of it! This is going to be a tough one due to the expected long losing runs, but a good test all the same. Good luck.

Actually, another question. Do you balance the profit on betfair so all outcomes give the same profit?

I don’t, I just record everything that it costs and what profit I make.

In my view the real value is in the WIN market… but if you are betting each way on betfair then I’d bet 1pt WIN… & 1/2pt on 5 places + 1/2 pt on 10 places.

If GG advises 0.75pts each way for instance,  then I’d favour the WIN market slightly,  and I’d do 0.4pt  on WIN;  then  0.2pts on 5 places and 0.2pts on 10 places  [I know it makes up to 0.8pts e/w, but the bit extra on WIN market is worth it in IMHO]

Cheers Salva, nice to see some other options.

Just suppose i am diving my stake by 3, if i back the 3 selections today in the win market at equal stakes of £13.33 (£40 / 3) then on one selection i win £168, on another £606 and third £500. Should i not at least balance these so profit is equal or leave as is?

As I said I would record the winnings as they are, you could always adjust your odds to give the same win no matter who won, dutching, but that doesn’t seem right to me. I would have thought that over the year you will get the right final result for your betting.

I must point out that this is my first year with the golf so I don’t know all the right answers for you

I did three win bets, one for a point and two for .75 points, and two top ten finish bets, again one for a point and two for .75 points. I think that’s right, or I could have done three each way top 10 finish bets?

as des911 says, I would not dutch the picks — the real nice value for me is in the bigger prices — you would kick yourself if a big price winner comes in but your stake was lessened due to dutching.

mrwhitney — if you have 3 win bets at the advised staking  and 3 place bets = top 10 finishes on Betfair at the advised staking then  ok —  Betfair doesn’t have the varied place terms that bookies do, so you have to make the best of it,  so either go for top 5 or top 10 finish or split your place bets into the 2 place markets.

Then let go of expectation, be patient, and let’s see how we do this year

Guys just for clarity as this is proving harder than I thought with people not getting EW betting

The bets are advised Each way 0.5, 0.75  or 1 point will be the stake

If using a bookmaker it is the same as any horse each way bet or any other each way bet, EXCEPT bookies offer different place terms on golf, some go Top 5, 1/4 odds some go Top 8, 1/5 odds, use oddschecker to see these and try and match the advice in the email.

If using Exchange it is simply a bet in the win market and a bet in the Top 5 market so if your stake is #10 a point then it is 10 in Win market and 10 in Top 5 market for a 2 point stake total of #20

As other have said the max value in this is winners not places, i wnat my win bet on at a good price, place market is turnover and smooth the ride only, wont get rich in the place side of things

Thanks Ian, was about to post your email on the forum but looks like you beat me to it. So it looks like it’s avoid the top 10 full stop. That sounds better to me as i was only going to win £19 on one of the picks in the top 10 market which didn’t seem worth it to me. It is better value with the bookies re offering more places, but i got banned from them a long time ago so no choice. So 1 point on Win and 1 point on top 5. Obviously adjust if GG recommends 0.75 points. So if a £40 stake, £20 on the Win and £20 on the top 5. If 0.75 points, then £15 on the win and £15 on the top 5. May need to look at opening some of these bookies accounts in my wife’s name as Paddy Power offers up to 8 places on the each way, but odds are slightly reduced. Not sure i want to go down that route as it’s only a matter of time before they ban me again or reduce my stakes to 20p. Anyway, I think that’s case closed for me and can’t wait to begin. Show me the money!…

Hi – it depends on the prices really

This week for instance I have staked as follows:

1 point on Kokrak win and 0.5 points on both top 5 and top 10, total 2 points

0.75 point win and 0.75 point top 5 Im (top 10 price very low, so hardly worth it), total 1.5 points

0.6 point on Harmen in win market, 0.5 top 5 and 0.4 top 10, total 1.5 points

Thanks mate. I’m just going to keep it simple as it’s my first year and only do the win and top 5 markets as Ian suggested. Just not enough profit in the top 10 on betfair. As a lot of people have said, it’s the Win market that’s the most important.
