After three months of hard work, countless late nights fighting with databases and more swearing then Ian after a 2-7 thumping at the old lane, the new FTS Income website is finally up and running.
Sure it didn’t all go according to plan… when you are rebuilding busy websites such as FTS there is a lot of pressure not to interrupt the day to day operation of the members area and if anything is broke on the day of launch, it is going to be your head. The problem with being a developer is it often feels like you are playing a game of Cluedo but you find yourself the murderer, the victim and the detective all at the same time. You can see something has died, you know bloody well you killed it, but you have no idea how you did it… In the solitary land development, there is no one to blame but yourself.
After waiting patiently for you midnight FTS’ers to kindly piss off and let me work, the website finally went live. When that database connected and I logged in for the first time, I let out a triumphant roar reminiscent of Psycho scoring a penalty, downed my pint of home brew and took myself to bed. I woke up the next morning to texts from Ian, immediately donned my fireman’s hat, and got to work frantically putting out fires before they spread too far.
Of all days, why did I choose a Friday launch.
For some reason we decided it would be a good idea to install a little chat bot as some sort of 999 emergency service to save Ian the trouble of forwarding me emails from disgruntled members who have been experiencing issues with the launch. I talked to a few of you that day, both on chat and via email and had some great conversation along the way. As one member said to me, the problem is never fixed, just another issue solved. I will always remember that one.
I was so busy chatting and putting out fires, I nearly set fire to my house having left an egg poaching on the stove as I rushed up stairs to answer more chats that were buzzing on my iphone. Thankfully my 6 month pregnant wife was in bed at the time because burning metal smells sure spreads quickly. What should have been a delicious oozing poached egg had now turned to charcoal, my house stank, members are still having security warnings, it is 3pm and I hadn’t eaten a thing. FML. Leaving a link for you old timers, that’s how much geeky loves you 😀
After a few more hours, we finally got the fires under control and FTS was finally reborn. God speed ftsincome.co.uk and all those who bet with her.
We really hope you like the new layout and thank you to everyone who answered our website poll. We have so many new features to release, all of which will go live depending on what you want to see next. We will publish the results on Sunday so if you haven’t already given your feedback, we would really appreciate your views.
To Ian, you are probably one of the nicest and most considerate people I have ever met. It has been a joy to do this with you and this is only the beginning. Thank you for taking me to my first Spurs games at the new stadium, OK we lost 0-1 to Newcastle but it wasn’t my bloody fault! I was with you next time for the 4-0 win over Palace, remember the good times boss!
I have a meeting with Ian tomorrow to discuss next steps. With the international break coming up we plan to start releasing those new features that we hope you will all enjoy.
If you see that little chat box, why not say hi and tell us what you want to see from FTS and what we could do better. If we are not online at the time, leave an email address will get back to you as soon as we can.
